Model 1905 4th change age?
Hello;
I just came across a Model 1905, 4th change, six inch bbl .38 special serial # 342XXX.
Can somebody give me an approximate age/ship date please?
Thanks in advance.

Given there is no letter prefix to the serial number on the butt of the frame, I would estimate 1919-1920.

Serial# 338008 shipped in May, 1920.
S&W did not ship guns in serial number order, but yours should be in that time frame ball park.

Went back and looked at the revolver again- It has a C serial # prefix.
My copy of the Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson's finally arrived from Amazon today, so I looked it up. Dates 1954-55 and has the correct ramp front sight for that date range.
