Good thing I didn't see that auction until it was over, or I might have felt a burning need to go deep into the hole to win it.
Misidentified, of course. It's not a "Pre-Model 20." It's a .38/44 Outdoorsman with King red reflector front sight. I bet the rear sight has a U-notch W/O King blade mounted. I'm guessing 1932 from the serial number.
I suppose the threaded barrel allows the attachment of weights, or maybe a home-made compensator. At any rate, it's an example of a purpose-modified weapon of the type that fascinates me.
My congratulations to the winner. I'm envious.

Wasn't there a thread on this gun just awhile back? It's not the first time I have seen it. The finish is in pertty nice shape considering it's age.

Thank you. I had to see it before I remembered it, but now that the other thread is up I remember how curious a specimen that was. Too bad that thread died before we got the basic questions answered.
