Default Pre War Outdoorsman with a Threaded Barrel

Hi
well here is the story on the Outdoorsman with the threaded barrel listed as a pre model 20 on Gun Broker.
It is a Pre War Outdoorsman serial number 418xx, it is a all numbers matching gun including the Grips. The condition a about 95% orginal blue it has been shot but not abused, the timing is great and the trigger pull is very nice.
It has a King red dot front sight and a U notch rear sight to match the front. As soon as it warms up a little I will go out and shoot it, should be a great shooting gun the sights are really nice.
enjoy the pictures the gun looks better in person that the pictures.
It was a good buy for $671.00 dollars.

Nice revolver. But I have a stupid question. Why was the barrel threaded?
For a silencer?
I love the contoure of these revolvers. I am looking for an Heavy Duty. But in Holland you cant find any.

Jim, excellent acquisition. You had already won it by the time I became aware the gun was available, or I might have bid for it myself. I love guns with the King reflector front/U-notch rear combination.

The gun is not a smoothbore, is it? I can't imagine so with upgraded target sights, but had to ask. I suspect the threaded barrel end is to allow weight attachment, or possibly a compensator. That feels like a serious target shooter's gun to me.

david
no it has rifling in the barrel.
I think it was for a compensator or weights to.
pretty nicely done it unscrews very easy.
and they did not mess with the crown of the barrel.

Jim:

I watched this gun closely from the time the thread was originally posted here on the forum. I could not get an answer about how the "knob" was attached to the barrel so did not bid !

Sure is a nice one !

Threaded for a suppressor, perhaps. I will venture that it was threaded for a compensator similar to that of the 1921AC Thompson, given the period. I'd truly like to see what the owner hung off this one. If it's lettered then we might learn when a suppressor was registered for it.

Thumbs up

Jim:

I followed that one as well and threw a bid on it, only because I was so curious as to what it was, and why someone would modify such a great target shooter. I knew that I should have bid a bit higher...

Glad to see that one of the members here took it home.

Enjoy!

OK, Thank you. I do think indeed that the thread was for an compensator.
Never seen one.
