NEED HELP WITH IDENTIFICATION.5 ROUND CHAMBER,SERIAL #939XX,PATENTS AUG 6 1889/OCT 8 1895 top of barrel stamped harrington&richardson arms co. side of barrel is stamped 38 cal s&w ctge any idea what year/worth?

This might be a 38 Double-Action top break , maybe the second model.

Can I raise the question of whether this is actually a Smith & Wesson? I don't believe S&W ever used the abbreviation CTGE for "cartridge." To my knowledge, it was always CTG. I don't think they used the abbreviation CAL either.

The shape of the trigger guard and trigger extension is incorrect for any S&W top break .38 that I know. This might be a Harrington & Richardson top break, or a gun from some other late 19th/early 20th century maker who produced weapons that looked a lot like S&Ws.

For that matter, it could be a European knockoff. Some Belgian and Spanish S&W fakes were as good as the guns they were imitating.

Well - no doubt about it . Its an H&R double action top-break -
not a S&W. Curiously, the serial number falls in the range of the
S&W 2nd model, but the patent dates are later than that production.
