Pistol Grips of the 1950s
What are some of the popular after market grips for S&W handguns of the mid 1950s?
Particularly, if someone was going to put "target" grips on his favorite revolver, what would be the ones most popular that aren't made by S&W?

I have a Combat Masterpiece that dates to 1955. It wears a set of Sile Target grips. (made in Italy)

Custom made, by Herrett's, unless they didn't start until the early 60's.

The most popular grips replacement grips from the 1950's were made of a new fangled material called plastic. It was cheap and could be made into almost any shape for replacement grips. "Franzite" is a comany name that appears in many old Shooters Bibles of the day. They were popular then, but hardly so now.
The 1950's wooden grips that are popular now, were very expensive then and not nearly as many of them were made.
I would asume that many other companys made cheap replacement grips that many shooters used and now most have been thrown away as todays S&W folks go looking for originals.

Hi:
In the 1950s Smith and Wesson and Colt offered oversize (target) grips on their models.
After market grips available were "Franzite" grips.

I'm a fan of Lew (father) and Don (son) Sanderson grips made from the 40s through the 70s.

Wasn't 'Pointer' brand another (plastic). Or was that later, 60's mfg'r.
I know I've seen pics of S&W's here with them on and I have a oversize/target set that fits a Colt SAA.
added:
Went and checked. The SAA pair I have has a sticker inside with 'Pointer Products / Montebello, Calif.'
Still don't know if they are 50's or not.
