K-22 barell swap out?
I have a friend selling a 4" K-22 here in Canada, and since I am not allowed to own any gun with barrels this length or shorter, since I did not have one prior to the 1995 guncontrol act C-96 act, i cannot legally own this I was wondering since the 22 Jet was built on a K frame, would a barrel fit this old K-22 frame? ANd if so does anyone now a source for a 8-3/8" 22 jet 22mag marked barrels?, thanks for all the help I get here on this fine forum, cheers dale Z in Canada

Its more than just a swap. They usually have to be fitted for the correct bbl/cylinder gap, and this has to happen when the front sight is top dead center. I need a 4" if in nice condition ... don't have any to swap though. Sent you a PM.

The Jet cylinder is slightly longer than a standard K-22 cylinder. I don't know if you can squeeze a jet cylinder into the regular Masterpiece frame.
I bought a loose 8-3/8 Jet Barrel from a parts guy on Gunbroker a year or so back. You might search there. I don't know if Numrich would still have long Jet barrels, but it's worth a look.

The Jet barrel's shroud probably won't match the contour of the frame of a standard K-22. This is a conclusion I arrived at several years ago when I considered installing a Model 19 barrel on a K-38 frame....
Your best bet would likely be to find a 6" barrel from a K-22 Masterpiece. I suspect the four inch gun you're considering has a narrow rib, so you'd need a six inch tube with a narrow rib to be a proper match. As far as I know, all 8-3/8 inch K-22 barrels had the wide rib - for what that's worth....

The .22 Jet barrel is marked .22 Magnum. It doesn't say "Jet" anywhere on it.

Thats what I was getting at, the gun has no markings to the true calibre of the revolver, even the box says 22 MAGNUM! I just like shrouded ejector rods, and want to build an 8-3/8" barreled gun, and a friend has a good deal on a gun that to me is one of the nicest rimfires other than there is no ejector rod housing. I would like one made up, just need to know if it is possible?

The problem you will have, as mentioned above, is that the frames are
different. Its because of the extractor housing. This same problem
occurs between model 14/15's, and the model 19. On the model
14/15's ( and 16/17's as well ) the contour of the front part of the
frame is angling back towards the trigger guard. Because of the
extractor housing on the model 19, the frame contour below the
barrel is not sloping, so that the extractor housing can come right up
to the frame.
If you put a 19 barrel on a 14/15 frame, it looks like it doesn't fit - the
extractor housing doesn't mate up to the frame. That is what will
happen with a Jet barrel on a model 17/18.

Mike thanks for clearing that all up, much appreciated! Has anyone ever converted a Model 19 K-Frame to a rimfire? Dale Z!
