M&P approximate age
I came into possession of a pre model 10 M&P, serial # S 9702XX, just curious if someone could take a stab at the year of manufacture.

Early 1948, possibly very late 1947.

kind of a rough looking old gal...just guessing the nickel job was done with a batch of bumpers in the 50's , no "N" on the frame under the grips, but there is a 7....
hard to get good pics with fluorescent lights overhead...

I just bought an M&P, too. Some guys in another thread took a stab at it dating it for me based on some of the gun's characteristics but nobody had a book handy. Anbody else care to weigh in? Serial No. C1132XX, 4-in. pinned barrel, .38 Spl.
Also, is anybody familiar with this publication?
Thanks!

Early 1950 -- that gun is about as midcentury as you can get.
I don't know anything about the Green Stripe guide you linked to, but it feels to me like one of those publications that amasses data available free in other locations and charges for putting it together on some printed pages. I'd be happy to learn that I am incorrect in that suspicion.

do m&p models of this vintage have the "N" stamped on the frame under the grip designating nickel production?
