Would someone ID this 22LR snub nose revolver for me?
I recently purchased a S&W 22LR 2" barrel revolver that I can't identify. It has #3609 on the base of the grip frame and cylinder. An "R" with the number "23005" under it and what looks like a "7" under it behind the swing out arm and a #23005 on the swing out arm. Adjustable rear sight, 3 screws visible with one screw under the walnut checkered medalion inlaid grip. S&W stamp on the left side of the frame. 22 L. R. CTG on the right side of the barrel. Smith & Wesson on the left. No stamps under the grips or on the grips. The guy I bought it from said its been in his family for over 50 years and he had to get rid of it because his new wife didn't want any guns in the house. He also had a Victory model 38 S&W and some old shotguns.

Pictures would help confirm this, but by exclusion I think we can say that you have a .22/32 Kit Gun, Model of 1953. That's a fairly low serial number, so it was probably shipped in 1954 or 1955.

That is a nice early kit gun with a 2" bbl, although the 4" is more common. All there too with original grips. Too bad the condition is a little rough....perhaps some good man used it as intended and kept it in a tackle box!

Thanx for the response guys. I was confused trying to date and identify it myself using the internet. S&W's pre model stamping isn't clear and I was getting all kinds of dead ends trying to use just the serial number. I'll clean it up tonight and see what kind of groupings I can get tomorrow. With a 2 " bbl I'm not expecting much. The good news is I can go through a brick at the same cost as shooting 1/2 a box of 45LC.

Yes,it's definitely an "Early" 1953 22/32 Kit Gun for sure!! I believe you will find it was made no later than 1954. It looks to be in pretty decent condition to me. I don't think the photos do it justice as they're a little dark & it should clean up well. These 2-Inchers are hard to find in any reasonable condition anymore & at least you can shoot this one. Please post some more photos when you get it all cleaned up so we can take a better look!! Nice Find by the way!!

As said you have a 22/32 Model of 1953 Kit Gun (2nd improvement I frame). It's a 4 screw (early model). The number on the butt is the serial #. Those in the 'arm' or crane are assembly #s and not helpful to date it.
The serial # will be on all major parts. They sell for $400 to $700 depending on condition.

You know,I just read your Original Post again & if you bought this right you might want to go back & check out the Victory Model as well. They've become pretty popular again, especially if they're High Condition!!

Next thing he's going to tell us he paid $200. for it.
Lucky newbie! Great little gun. Treat it right and it will give
you and your family lifetimes of service.

Here are the cleaned up photos.
I didn't know what I was getting... it just looked fairly clean, had a good name and would make a nice pocket revolver to go with my Bond Arms snake gun. Small caliber with 6 shots along with a cannon shooting 45LC or 410 but only 2 shots. My only other S&W is a 625-9 Mountain which I love but until I start reloading isn't in my budget for casual plinking.
I wasn't interested in the Victory 38 S&W due to the caliber. I think it may have been rechambered as I tried a 38 special round in the cylinder and it fit. I didn't know enough about 38S&W caliber to be sure. The revolver was medium clean with US Property stamp. Missing lanyard ring, SN 9400 or 99**.
I did buy some cheap shotguns along with the 22/32 Kit so can't say exactly what I paid for the kit but if it's worth what you guys say I got a really good deal. I didn't buy it to sell but to shoot so it doesn't really matter.
Thanks again for all the responses and info. Kind of nice to have a piece of history. Could be addicting!!!

You did a fine job cleaning it up.
Sunlight is the best if your buyin'/worse if you sellin', for showing off condition.
That little revolver is a keeper.
As far as the guy you got it from, that new wife sure must be good... I mean she must really....
.... it couldn't be that good!?!

nickles43,
By the way,Welcome to the Forum!! I kind of missed that in my first post!! See,didn't I tell you it would clean up nicely?? The New Photos are much better as well!! She's definitely a "Keeper" especially with that Lower 4-Digit Serial Number!! You can shoot it forever as long as you keep her cleaned & oiled. These 22/32 Kit-Guns are "Very Collectable" and it should continue to be for some time!! The Early Revolvers always do!!
Enjoy!!
