Pawn shop Pre-15
I was checking out the pawn shops close to me, and I saw a K frame in the display. It is a 5 screw K pre 15 SN K 194xxx. It was filthy and had what I thought were plastic grips. We negotiated a bit, and I brought it home.
A nice addition and the grips are genuine horn. It did clean up well, looks like it was stored a lot, but not shot. It does have a few pitted areas and I did have to remove a bit of rust. The recoil shield has no real markings around the firing pin hole.
I may have to part out the grips - they look nice but they don't really fit me. Just thinking at this point.
Got any more info?
Thanks,

Nice find. Maybe a Tyler T Grip would make the grips fit better. They do look nice.

Nice find. Those grips sure do look like they belong on that revolver.

I like it! Grips and all! May I ask what you paid for it?

Nice lookin' gun. If you do decide to replace the grips, just don't let anyone steal those from you. Genuine sambar stag grips of that style will sell for $100 to $150....

Thanks for the replies.
Mark - great advice - they are the real thing. They do look good but I have problems with service magnas.
Misty - I paid $325 for the revolver.
I am getting different info - SN 194xxx is this 1953 or earlier???

I agree that those grips look nice, but they probably wouldn't fit me either.

Those stags are service grips, not Magnas. The Magnas have a section that goes up higher on the sides and spreads out the recoil into the web of your hand.

Good deal on the gun. The grips look pre-war. Your gun should have diamond magnas or diamond targets.

Those pre 15s are cool as all get out. Those grips are a real bonus. You just don't find them like that very often.
I noticed that the trigger and hammer appear to be blued rather than case colored. Has the gun been redone at one time?
It doesn't look polished out from the photos.

The trigger and hammer appear to be sort of blued, not bright or color case hardened.
Is this a reblue or sort of standard for the time?
