Default [yet another] Request to id a 22 Long Rifle CTG

I am new to this forum and have searched for info on the revolver I am trying to identify. I think it is a .22/32 kit gun but there are certainly many photos of revolvers that look similar on this forum. I have posted pictures, if necessary I could post more. The gun has 22 LONG RIFLE CTG on the right side of the barrel, SMITH & WESSON on the left side of the barrel. 12935 stamped on the metal at the base of the handle grip, on the bottom of the barrel and on the back of the cylinder. 6 shot cylinder. Handle grip is "rounded" at the base.
Questions:
1. The gun is missing what I believe are the Extractor rod, Spring & Center pin: Will I have difficulty getting these parts replaced? Approximate cost of repair?
2. What model & [approximate] year is the gun?
3. Approximate value if I wanted to buy a similar [repaired] gun?
4. If it is a 'kit gun' could you explain the meaning?
5. How is the barrel length measured? Does this gun have a 4" barrel?

Thanks for all of your help.

Welcome to the forum.

1. Don’t know.
2. Model of 1953 .22/32 Kit Gun (improved I frame) from the mid-1950’s.
3. $500-600
4. Handy to have in a field kit or tackle box.
5. From the front of the cylinder.

It looks like a nice gun. Where did the parts go?

Smile Welcome to the forum

You are correct, it is an early model kit gun, made before Model numbers started. Memory escapes me right now as to which model it became (Model 34 I think). 22/32 being a 22 built on a 32 frame. "Kit" refers to it being light and handy for your "kit" or gear bag.
You are also right on the parts that are missing. The cost of parts should not be too back, but the extractor is a fitted piece and may cost a little to have done. You can probably get the factory to fix that for you for less than $200.

Unfortunately, that is something of a "transition" piece, and as such you may or may not have trouble with the missing parts. I just need the same ejector rod (I have all the other parts) and cannot find it from any of the normal parts vendors/sources. Maybe since you need to replace the whole thing, a J-frame set could be adapted, but the J-frame rod has reversed threads from the I-frame. Good luck and if you find an extra one of those e-rods, please let me know!

Froggie

PS You are aware that you are also missing the extractor in those photos, aren't you?

No, I did not know that the extractor was missing. Thanks for that input.

Try Poppertsgunparts.com he sells lots of S&W parts for older guns. These parts may be difficult to find. Good luck
