Default 38/44 HD King's Target

I found this at the Las Vegas show this weekend. 1932 Mfg'd .38/44 HD, 409xx, converted to target with King's Pat Pend. front and rear sights, lightened cockeyed (patent off. marked) hammer, single action only, with added trigger stop. Finish is about 95% original with some cloudiness in several spots, but much better in person than in the photos. Grips are unmarked and the first of this type that I have seen, but nicely made and a great feel in the hand. My first 38/44 HD.

VERY sweet Gun,It is interesting that they started with a HD and not an Outdoorsman. That is the first lightened Cockeyed Hammer I have ever seen,Is it marked by King?

I haven't pulled the side plate yet to see how they did this one, but my guess is that if you bought a hammer from king it was marked and if they converted yours it was not.

Wow, that's a great one. Mine is very similar to that and it's one of the neatest guns I own.

If i could find some .38 ammo i would go right out and shoot it. The grips aren't terribly well finished inside. I will have to wait until tomorrow to get the stocks off and get some photos.

I would venture a guess that the gun was actually a 38/44 Outdoorsman that was King converted. If you PM me the full serial number, I'll see if I have it in my database. The 40000 and 41000 serial number ranges are predominantly 38/44 Outdoorsman. I only know of 1 41000 serial number for an HD. nice looking gun.

1aspenhill has serial numbers on each side of this pistol as 38/44 Outdoorsmans, so the odds are this is an upgraded Outdoorsman although unless someone was a very dedicated target shooter that would seem to be overkill.
