Default Can I use .22 High-vel ammuntion?

Hello again,

Well, I got my .22/32 lettered as made in 1914. I have seen some notes about not using high-vel ammo in guns that are not recessed...sooooo...before I make a mistake, thought I should ask first.

Masterpiece?

Appreciate all your help on this forum.

Steve

I wouldn't. Why stress the ol' girl?

I've gotten to the point where I use standard velocity 40 gr ammo in all my 22's, new and old mfg.
Seems like my accuracy is better with it.

Thanks GF, I was thinking along those lines.
Good thing my son has a Rossi gallery gun that he can use the 3000 or so .22 HV rounds I have.

Off to the store for some standard Long Rifle.

I'll agree that it's not a good idea to use HV 22 ammo in an early 22/32, and that generally standard velocity ammo is more accurate in most guns. However, I believe that the concern is more with the safety of the shooter (due to possible unsupported primer side-rupture) rather than with consequences to the gun; burst primers are no fun. -S2

Thanks Speedo2,

Good info, as usual, from this forum.

My 12 yo son is going to be shooting this gun and I don't want any accidents.
