Default 1937 Brazillian - Grip Suggestions?

I have a rough '37 Brazil contract in .45 ACP. I have medium sized hands and wondered about grip replacement suggestions. I still have the lanyard swivel. The original grips were smooth but someone has tried to checker them. They are still functional but want something to give me the best chance at repeatability. Pretty is not the point. Just want to shoot as well as possible with the gun. What do you think? TIA. Packrattusnongratus

You can get 1917 stocks from Numrich. Add a large-frame grip adapter and you should have a good basic set-up.

I put rubber Pachmayr grips on my Brazilian. They fit my medium hands pretty well, and make for comfortable shooting. For some reason .45 ACP really slams my hands, and grips with a little compressibility to them seem to help.

Modern makers also have wooden stocks that offer a better grip on N-frames. I have no specific recommendations, but others will.

A grip that fills your hand will offer you the best control and appear to have the least recoil. There are as many different grips as there are shooters. Try different grips at gun shows or large gun stores and see what fits you best. Once you find an N Frame grip that suits you, use it on all your N Frames.

Pachs are ok, but you will have to either cut them to accomodate the butt swivel, or remove it.

I would try a Tyler T Grip adapter along with the stocks you already have and go from there.

I have magnas on mine, with a S&W grip adaptor...IIRC, Numrich is out of grips for these guns...but that could change.*

*They have new repro grips both checkered and smooth made by Sile, and with Sile logos. Original grips are gone.

Lightbulb Repop... 1917's aren't too bad.

Eagle:

Walnut S&W 1917 Grips Smooth Original Type Eagle Grips Inc.

North Carolina Ordinance:

Gun Grip - Smith and Wesson Revolvers

Eagle Heritage could probably be made to work if you milled away a clearance for the lanyard ring...

Heritage Grips For S&W N Frames - Eagle Grips Inc.

Or you could try a pair from S&W themselves....

Product: N/G Sq Bt Walnut Heritage Classic Checkered Grip w/S&W Medallion

But the Ultimate would probably be a pair of Kieth Brown's Pre-War Magnas....

Any sources for the grip adapters these days? I don't remember seeing them lately. Thanks.

On 3-19-13 I ordered the Heritage grips # 410840000 from S&W. Came in the mail today and they look great. Part of it is the new effect but the gun feels good in the hand. Will get pictures when I receive the flat black Tyler grip adapter. Thanks for the sources. Packy
Now I have to make good on the pictures. The Tyler grip came. But it made the gun into a different model! It fits my hand like no DA has before. Thanks again for the suggestions.
