Exclamation model 1950 fixed sight info

hey my father recently inherited a very nice smith and wesson model 1950. he has only fired it a few times and he uses .45 ACP with a clip or else they just fall right through the chamber. please help we really want to know the age and price of this fine fire arm

the serial on the bottom is s92xxx

First you should post some photos. Include the serial number found on the butt frame and any information stamped inside of the yolk. Is the barrel & cylinder and right stock numbered to the gun?

That number dates to 1953. Value will depend on condition, pics would help if you can post them.

inside the yolk is stamped U 3394 and yea the numbers all match through out

You have a later version of the 1917 Army. These were usually chambered in .45 ACP, but the cylinder bores should have shoulders that keep these from falling through; they should stay in position so you can fire them. What is stamped on the right side of the barrel, and can you see shoulders in the chambers about the length of the .45 ACP case?

yes you can see shoulders in the chamber the 45acp do not fall through but we always use the clips did not know what would happen if fired without the clip

The S serial prefix and stamping Model of 1950 on it makes it rare and valuable.

It will shoot fine without the clips, the empty cases just won't extract (you could push them out from the cylinder front with a rod). It appears original, and I would guess it is worth about $1500. Not many of these come up for sale in this condition, so it is difficult to judge its current value. Personally I would keep it as a family heirloom, because it is not replaceable at any cost. Hope this is helpful.

I agree with Alan. If your Pre-Model 22 is truly 99% without box, it is worth $1750 give or take.

MY dad inherited the gun from his neighbor across the street from the house he grew up in. It was his fathers gun he stored it in a wool sock in a safety deposit box in a bank for 30 years until he passed and my father got it. it looks beautiful. if you would like more close pics of certain things just ask

Thanks for the info, my brother's father in law passed away and his wife inherited his guns. Sadly, she is an anti-gun nut so my brother passed the guns to me. They were just a couple of automatics to them but to me they are treasure. I only met the gentleman once but I will always remember him whenever I take them to the range. maybe one of these years my sister-in-law will ease in her views and I would be glad to return them to the rightful owner.
