This is an interesting Revolver to me anyway

As far as I can tell, it has all the correct markings and marching numbers (serial numbers on base plate, barrel and cylinder match - crane and crane recess numbers match) for the Lend-Lease mfg. revolver, but there are a couple of glaring anomalies.

1. The Grips are old plastic/Bakelite rather than wood.

2. It is plated.

3. It will chamber a .38 Spl cartridge, but it does not have the Parker Hale marking on the right side of the frame for the 38 S&W to .38 Spl conversion. The chambers appear to have been "stepped" for the .38 S&W cartridge, but it is not functional as far as preventing a .38 Spl cartridge from being chambered like other .38 S&W revolvers I have seen.

4. No lanyard loop or plugged hole for same.

Also, the plating is interesting in that I thought it was chrome or nickel with a lot of frost. So far, the more I clean/polish it with Ballistol and a soft toothbrush, more of the cloudiness gives way to shiny plating - kinda like polishing silver.

It is a converted VM. At least the barrel wasn't cut back so far it lost the ejector rod lug. Poor quality refinish. I would not shoot 38 Special ammo in it. Basic truck gun at this point.

PS: I'm certain it had a ring. Maybe plugged so well you don't see it.

Sure looks like the outline of a plug to me on the last pix. I was luck enough to find a 1942 vintage pre-victory that went to Australia & back (with all the interesting markings & the like.) I fit a 38 special cylinder that matches the original patina pretty well so now I have a "38 S&W/Special Convertible" to play with. I found a box of 38 S&W at Ben's Loan in Renton, WA & they have 3 or 4 more boxes if any of you Seattle guys are interested.

I really like that it is a Victory with all the numbers match matching and, in a way, am relieved that it has no collector value because of the refinish job.

It might be interesting have it checked over by a Smith, remove the plating and parkerize it w/o any additional polishing, get some period correct grips and use it for a shooter

The bore and cylinders have no pitting or corrosion that I can see. It cycles correctly in both single and double action. The lockup is a bit loose, but, even on all cylinders - I'm sure that could be remedied.

It isn't mine, but will pass the info on to the owner. I was interested enough in it to offer to clean it up for him and see what I could find out about it.

You can clearly see the hole for the retaining pin in the profile shots.
