Default Pre-Model 27 Value Questions

Went to some antique malls with the wife today and I was fortunate to make a small country gun store one of the stops. I walked in and saw a Pre-Model 27 blue revolver. The price was 550 and she was pretty firm. I would rate the gun at 90-95%. It had some slight blue loss at the muzzle. No major scratches or dings that I could see. It did have a turn line, but those have never bothered me. The cylinder, frame, and crane numbers all matched. It is a S serial numbered gun, serial number 117121. I am thinking about going back with my C&R and buying it. The stocks that are on the gun are not numbered. They have some wear at the base, but no major dings or scrapes. Should these stocks be numbered to the gun? There is no box or docs or goodies. The barrel is either 5 or 6"....wife was getting antsy and saying you're gonna spend how much for a gun?...haha...anyway, I don't have pics. Is that a fair price? Not a steal, but for a gun made in 1954-55 that is 56 or 57 years old, I thought it pretty nice. Thoughts?

If it helps, S117236 shipped September '54.

As it relates to the stocks, if they are magnas the right stock should be numbered to the gun if they are target they will not be numbered. Hope this helps.

Any chance they are Cokes? You probably know the difference but the last pre-27 iwth 6 inch barrel I picked up had Cokes on it. I paid $700 and it is about an 89% gun. I think I got a great deal considering the Cokes were darn near perfect.

Sounds like a bargain to me...but I'm a long way from being an expert on this stuff. If it was a 5" I'd have bought it in a heart beat!

Tell her that I just paid a little under a grand for one like it it (it did have the box) just a few numbers different in the S/N. I don't know if that was too much or not, but I'd jump on another one at $550.

Mine is a great shooter.

Dan,

If I am not mistaken cokes were specific to model 29s from 1956 until 1967 and early ('64-'65) model 57s.

I believe you are correct but from time to time they show up on pre-27's and I would imagine if you wanted them then you could order them on your gun from the factory. The last pre-27 I bought came with Cokes so I thought I would mention it. I wonder if it was just a fluke or if they are commonly seen on pre-27's. But I do agree with you that they are mostly seen on 44 and 41 mags.

Picked her up today. She is 6" and the stocks are target, not Cokes. I am thrilled. The action is as good or better than any revolver I have, including Pythons. I am thinking that she is more like 95% too. It is hard to see any blue wear without wearing magnification. Happy Birthday to me (next week)...I'll post some pics soon.

Good pickup Rick. Glad you got that one. It looked great in person and bet with a good cleaning and a coat of wax, it will look even better.

Really nice folks...if I had not been on my lunch hour, probably would have stayed and talked for a while. I did have to explain my C&R to them. They almost called you about it. I think you must be their #1 customer...lol
