Default A new 1953 Combat Masterpiece

Looking around the monthly WPB gunshow today and saw a few interesting pieces including two 3.5" 27's and a nice 4" 28.

While seriously pondering dropping $600 on an early Model 60 (490,000 serial range) w/ serialed diamond grips and case colored hammer trigger when "BAM!!!" ....
I stumbled on my true passion,....An early 5 screw Combat Masterpiece!

It was hiding in a case of used polymer semi autos and wearing a set of nice but improper 70's non diamond targets (probably helped disguise its true identity)....
The 50's era "High Speed" hammer and proud front site pins caught my eye and caused me to stop.
.....Closer inspection revealed its early 6 groove backstrap and dull blue finish with a K 195134 Serial from 1953.

Some very slight holster wear at the muzzle but otherwise clean and almost looked to be unfired.

Miami pawn shop had it priced at $450 but we quickly agree on $375 (with some minor haggling).
Makes a perfect match for my 1952 K22 Combat Masterpiece (bottom).

Sorry for the ****** pics but my little digital camera prefers sunlight and its late by now...
Perhaps i can get some better pics in the daylight tomorrow.

Please forgive the low shoulder later Magnas but thats all I have on hand right now...
Im picturing a set of early Diamond targets...

Anybody else love the 50's era five screw Combat Masterpieces?

Sir.
Nice K22.
Any more than 1 and you are a hoarder. It is a bad way to go.

An excellent score at a good price; and the new gun completes a nice pair.

Yes, I too like five screw CMs -- here are my .22 and .38:

Nice score! I really think you "stole" it at $375, but then who wouldn't buy such a sweet gun at $375? I see junked out late model 10's here for more then what you paid... Yes I'm a bit jealous... Kyle

Hi Engine49guy,
Good eye and great snag! Yes, I love any Smith from the '50s. The earlier the better!

Sir.
If those are all K22's, you are beyond a Hoarder. You might be an Extremist. You most likely have more than 50 rounds of .22 LR ammo, also. Best be careful, Big Sis is looking for folks like you.

Here's my baby, born in 1951. Still has the original grips numbered to the gun.

Seems like there are deals to be had on the .38's I just traded a nickle 19-5 (nice gun nothing special) and $200 for a mint anib 14-2 with box and docs and the original sales receipt. Great shooting and beuatiful gun. I'll bet if that gun had been a .357 you wouldn't have got it at such a sweet price.

Engine49guy,

Great score indeed! My birth year as well, the gun's holding up and looking much better than I am however.

Very nice shooter you stumbled on! It usually pays to check every nook and cranny at gun or pawn shops especially if they turn a lot of guns. Never know what you might find hiding in plain sight.
