Default K-22 Model 17 no dash

I picked up a model 17 no dash today at my LGS. Th serial # is K426502. What website could I go to find the date of manufacture. The gun is in very nice shape and I've been looking for one of these for a few years now. I also picked up a 4" 686 no dash that is in 99% condition. It was definatly Christmas in June for me today!!

Any info given on where I can find what I want would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,
Joe

Congrat's on your new K22. As to a specific site for find all the info you're asking for at the moment I can't recall. I have some info saved from when I got my K22.

Going by the serial number you gave, your K22 was made in 1960. It should be a four screw if I'm correct. Forgive me for assuming, however it may or may not be something you already know. The difference between the 5,4 & 3 screw models. The four screw models were only produced from about 1956 (I think) to 1961 with some serial numbers making it into 1962.

P.S. Someone will be along shortly to tell you....PICTURES! WE WANT PICTURES!

I suggest that you buy "The Standard Catalogue of Smith and Wesson". You will find infinitely more info there than on any website. Otherwise, just ask your questions here. That's the next best resource.

Welcome to the Forum. The best general reference is the Standard Catalog of S & W 3rd edition, but if you are like most members here you will have to budget not only for the book but also all the other neat S & W s it will entice you to buy. Enjoy!

Thanks for all the replies. I'm from Sullivan County NY, near the PA border about 120 miles NW of NYC. I'm working on the pics I just got a new camera the other day and need to read the directions. I'm sure my kids could figure it out in 2 seconds! lol. Yes it is a 4 screw. I'm new to "knowing" about S&W revolvers and want to learn. My passion has been Rugers for a few years but my first handgun was an old model 10 that was issued to me when I started my Police career in 1987, I then bought and carried a model 19 until we made the switch to semi autos in late 1989. Anyway thanks for the welcome guys and I'll get pics up soon of all my S&W revolvers. I only have a few right now but hopefully you guys can help me change that!

Joe

First of all welcome to the forum, and congratulations on obtaining one fine fine revolver. I have one of about the same vintage.
You can be sure these fellers will "help" you get more S&Ws.

I was perfectly happy with two before I came under the influence of this place. Now I have over 20.

If you value your money, run, run like the wind.

Thanks Iggy! I have had the "gun disease" for years now. At least now when I buy a S&W I might know what I'm buying, and if I'm paying too much. I've been prone to do that in the past on some guns. You know "That gotta have it factor". I am looking for a model 57! LOL.

If a person only had two revolvers, a K-22 and a model 57 would do the trick!!
