IVORY GRAIL GRIPS.. ALL LEE'S FAULT
While walking the floor at the SWCA Show here in Orlando with Joe Cebull ( Master Case Restorer) and all around good guy..
Who should appear infront of us but... "The Great Ape" Hisself>>
Well after shaking hands.. sittin' and talkin'... we got on to " Tradin' "..
I had spotted these in Lees case and inquired.. ..
Well the next thing you know we was Swappin' STUFF and the Ivories came home with me..
Now that's my story and I'm stickin' to it.. But if any of you ever have the chance to deal with Mr. Jarrett.. He makes it a great experiance.. A true gentleman..
.357 Magnum 5" 5 Screw.. with Target Ivories..

I have NEVER seen ivory targets. EVER. IN MY SHORT LIFE. That is amazing looking. I don't even know what I would by dying to find to add those on. I don't know what I would even do with them. They would have to go in a safe. That was setting in a safe. That was in a locked vault room. Did I already say they look amazing!?!?!?!?!?!

Great deal!! Now, if anybody wants to know how to tell if it's real ivory or not, they can look at the above. Esp. the shots of the bottom of the grips.
I wouldn't be surprised to learn that Lee harvested the source of that ivory. In this incarnation, or a previous one! TACC1

I had the same reaction. Ivory service stocks? Yeah. Ivory magnas? Yeah. Ivory targets with a subtle football relief? Uhh...
A museum piece. Congratulations.

I am stunned by those.
I am a shooter, not collector, and everything I own (Not Much) has wood on it. I Like Wood!
But those stocks on that blued gun make the best looking revolver I have ever seen. Great Score, Great Post!

I don't have anything that looks as nice as those stocks.
Oh, wait. I do have a post-war elephant with the E prefix. He has a little blue loss around the opening of the trunk. He looks very nice on the ivory tusks I had laying around.
Includes crate, 1000 sq yds of wax paper and shovel (eh, cleaning tool) still in the bag.
I would want 5k plus whatever the XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXL flat-rate shipping box costs.
Sorry to have to 1-up ya Sal.

Absolutely gorgeous ivory grips. I'm surprised you didn't have to use a crowbar to get Lee to part with them!
Knowing that I'd have to bust my piggy bank to own such a delightful set of grips, I had to settle for this set of "falsies" which were well executed by Don Collins - very nice but not up to your original tuskers.
Thanks for sharing the pics!

Sal, I could not fully understand why you had to have these grips until I saw the pictures. They are truly one-of-a-kind, outstanding!

Sal, those do look familiar. Do they have prewar style circles holding the medallions in place?
I think those are a set that I finished for Lee. Someone else started them but left a little rough. If I remember correctly the would not fit anything. I reshaped them, installed the medallions and made a set of prewar style mounting circles to hold them in place, made a set of prewar style escutcheon and installed them. They do look better than I remember, I do know the felt good in my hand.

I assume that Sal's stocks are different from the ones that Lee had you do that are detailed in this thread:
UPDATE- Now CHECKERED>>>Tooth of the Pachyderm, a la Roper
Also some of my favorite of all time stocks...
BTW - you do beautiful work.

Sal - Those really stunning...
When I was in Tucson, I too asked Lee about the availability of his Ivory Ropers, and he politely and kindly told me the same thing.
I liked Lee's "pachaderm post" as it showed the process of what Tim added and then Keith's beautiful work.
I have thought of sending a set of Post War Ivory Magna's to Tim along with some gold pre-war medallions to get him to work his magic on them. Maybe sometime in the near future...

Everyone, thanks for the compliments. As for Lee's quote on the Ivory Ropers, I could have swore that Lee was leaving them to me in his will.
RKmesa, I would be more than happy to take a look at your grips.
Sal, I can tell you those Ivories do look mighty fine on a Registered Magnum. Thanks for post the pictures, hope to see them again.
Thanks Tim

Amazing Ivories
I saw those ivories in Lee's case of grips, stocked with many many great great grips I might add, and asked to hold them, spectacular! It was early in the show and at that point I wanted to see what else to spend my limited resources on and when when I went back they were gone, some lucky member got them and I was sadly disappointed. Honestly, that happens in these shows more often then I care to make excuses for. Great to meet you Sal, congratulations.

I was coveting those and trying to beat Lee down to a "reasonable" price (like in the $10-$15 range ) when you came along and acquired them.
They were truly stunning and I'm highly envious.
And don't they look great on the 5 screw!! Good job.

Tim,
They are the last set you finished for me.
Yes, they are fabulous.
I'm sorry to say that I just couldn't afford to keep them.
Tim does fabulous work.
Thanks for the deal, Sal.
Enjoy them!
