Old K-frame .38 Special
This is the first time back to the forum in a long time; I hope I may ask a question here. A neighbor asked me to clean an older revolver for her, as her son had taken it shooting without returning it cleaned. The revolver is a 5 screw K frame with a 4 inch barrel and adjustable sights (looks like my Combat Masterpiece but has no model # designations stamped on, only a "K"), nickel plated, and has a serial number of 24X,XXX. The revolver is tight and completely functional but without any box or other accessories. Is this a desireable gun that I should advise the neighbor not to let her ne'er-do-well kid shoot anymore, and what ammo should I suggest as safe for it? Any information as to date of manufacture would also be appreciated. I apologize if this sort of question is too frequently asked and beg your indulgence. Thanks, GWW

Welcome to the forum.
I will assume that serial number has a K in front of it. It has a DOB in 1955. Any good ammo will work fine, including +P, although I wouldn't run a lot of them through it. The Combat Masterpiece is a fine revolver. I have one from about the same era and it's a great shooter.

. . . and it wasn't until 1957 that the Model 15 designation was assigned to the Combat Masterpiece.

The kid needs revolver maintenance lesions, or instructions to keep his paws off of it .
