Default Shooting session with my 27 No Dash

I have never taken the time to really shoot this gun which I purchased back in 2004. Test fired it and put it away.
It's about a 95% gun, shipped in October of 1958. Serial number S 1857XX.
I took it out back this afternoon and found that it printed 148Gr WC one on top of the other at 25 yards.
When it came to cast bullets at magnum speeds it was so so. Out to 50 yards with cast magnums sized 358 dia, in two different bullet styles of SWC, and hard cast, it was so so.
By the end of the day it was printing 158 gr JHPs in the black at 100 yards from a rest.
This one shoots a little different than my other 27s and pre 27s, they are not so fussy and usally do just fine with my cast SWCs at magnum velocities. Now that I know what she likes, I'll be loading up some 158 gr JHPs and may just try to take a deer with it this fall.

I have a Mod 27-2 20 years later mfg. than yours, it's a shooter with 158gr LSWC ammo.

I didn't shoot this gun much at first either. When I did try it out, I felt dumb for not bringing it to the range sooner.
The Mod 19 stays home more now.
I haven't streched it out to the 50 & 100 yard range but after reading your post I think I'll put it on sandbags and try it out.

Maybe I'll take some 148gr wadcutters along too, just to see...

GF

I like it. Your's has the TT & TH where mine does not. Those are options that I really like on a K or N frame Smith & Wesson target gun. I wish mine had them.
Theres something about those five inch N frames.

Nice one, moosedog! Gotta love the 27...both of mine are shot extensively with 148 gr factory wc. Both also shoot quite well with 158 JHPs. Wish I had a couple more...
