Default Need Help Identifying S&W .22

Hello forum. I am new to the forum and a proud new father of my first S&W. I had a yard sale today and a guy came looking for guns and I had a walther he like but said he had a .22 revolver he had to sell first. I aske him to see it and he came back with this S&W 22. I offered him $200 and he said he would take $210. So I figured I couldn't go wrong buying a S&W for $210 even though it's a 22. Long story short now I am trying to figure out what I bought which is where you all come in. It has a 4" barrel and SN is 220xx. the SN is stamped into the inside of the grips, on the bottom of the grip frame and bottom of tha barrel. Blueing is in great shape with light holster wear at the muzzle.
I am trying to find out what model and the aproximate age. I would also like to know what a balpark value would be for the gun. Thanks for any help.

Welcome to the Forum.

You have a Model of 1953 Kit Gun. It is also known as a pre M34 (model numbers were assigned around 1957). It was probably shipped between 1955 and 1959. Value would be closer to $500-$600.

You done good!!!

Nice Kit Gun at a very good price. Congratulations!
That is the way to start a S&W collection.
Nice bonus that the diamond grips number to the gun.
I don't have a Kit Gun, but a friend I used to hunt with 30 years ago always carried one. I shot a few grouse with it in the day. I always thought I'd like to own one, but building my collection of HEs and early model K frames always gets in the way.
Maybe someday I'll stumble on one the way you did!
Cheers.
JP

Gave $475 for mine a couple of months ago and I thought it was a very good price for a 95%er. Great find. Let me know when you want to double your money.
