Hello all. I am on the road and away from my books and need some help. A friend has called me offering to sell a 1902, s/n 61513. I don't know much about this model and need help. He tells me it about 90% and I need a ballpark value. I realize this is hard to do without photos but any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
Just spoke with the seller and it turns out this gun is a target model which certainly makes it more interesting!

90% is problematic. Typically, but not always, this usually means that
a rather large spot of blue is missing, all in one place. If just small
bits of blue are missing here and there, its harder to call that 90%.
This is only meaningful in the context that one larger area missing
the finish makes the gun less valuable to collectors.

Of course, this is why pictures are very important.

Having said that, depending on what the gun really looks like, the
price should be somewhere around $500 to $600, given that its a
target, and also that there is nothing else wrong. Ie, nice grips,
proper timing, clear bore, etc.

This gun would still have the early lockwork, which can be a bit
stiff for double-action shooting.

If you end up buying this, please post photos. I have a 1902 Target that letters to March, 1904. They are wonderful guns to have in your collection. Would love to see pix of another one.

Here is another 1902 target. It was offered for sale several years ago,
for something like $1200 to $1500 . At the time I thought it was
too high.

I have one of these revolvers with a serial number in the 505XX range and always figured it dated from 1904. I'm wondering if any of the above are close.

The one I posted is 300 away, to the upside.

I didn't realize we were talking about 1902 1st changes. Here is my
all-time favorite, with a 4" barrel. Serial number is around 45000 .
