Default K-38 Heavy Masterpiece

After searching for several months for a minty set of period magna grips, and two offers to sell for $130 and $150 respectively, Gun Broker came through with this set of beauties for $62. I was surprised when I bought this gun from a forum member and sent for a letter and it stated shipped with target hammer, target trigger, and service stocks. The stocks that came on it were minty unrelieved diamond centers. I thought for sure they were original, but alas, they were not. Now, the numbers do not match, but the added grips were of 1953 vintage and 100% correct for 1957.
I am beginning to learn more about my new chosen collector field of post war K's. Big Larry

Looks awesome!

Im guessing the offers were for the unrelieved target grips not the gun?

And what did you do with those unrelieved target grips... he he.

No, 2 persons wanted $130 and $150 for a set of minty magnas. I thought that a little too much. The minty unrelieved diamond centers are in with my other special stocks for future use. I have learned that it is good to hoard parts. Thanks, Big Larry

The non relieved targets appeared in about 1950 as i recall so wouldnt be out of order on your gun,
Of course it may cause extraction issues with .38's. (notice the dings on mine) Probably better fit on a k22.

Factory letter states, # K 272318 was shipped 1-9-1957 to Jurek Bros. Inc. Greenfield,MA with checkered walnut grips and target hammer and trigger. Mr. Jinks stated that the target grips were not original to this revolver. Soooooo, I have a minty set of unrelieved diamond center target grips. I don't like changing things. I buy the guns that match, hopefully. Thanks, Big Larry

Big Larry, I have found, when the cash is available, some are too good to pass on.....numbered grips or not. I don't like buying them, either. However, I hate passing on them worse. When I have the coins, the gun is mine. When not, I have to be more picky most of the time.

I'll also not call you a hoarder for keeping those other grips. Collector? Yes. Nice gun.

I still wonder often in regards to all K-38 grips coming with matching numbers. Wondering doesn't make me wrong.....or right.

I have been collecting guns since the 60's and have always collected by the motto,"never buy a gun you have to make excuses for". With me, if the grips don't match, I will pass. It is important to me a gun is 100% correct. I am not above parts changing if some small parts are less than perfect, but I don't have any need for unmatched guns.To me they are shooters and I have over 100 guns and plenty of shooters. Thanks, Big Larry
