Default Questions about this Mod 37

I'm trying to figure out the grips on this gun and what it really is. As some of you know I have only been trading and buying Smith's for about a year now and I really only have a vague idea of what I am doing. And this gun has me a little stumped as to what it really is.

It's marked a Mod 37 and the grips are numbered to the gun. 6859XX is the serial. When a friend ran the numbers for me it comes in as a 55-57 mfg date.

BUT... Every other 37 or similar snubbie from that period has diamond grips. What do I have here? Or really what is the reason for the grip difference?

I realize this is mostly academic because the answer really won't add in value (or I suppose it won't) but I enjoy these guns and really am trying to learn as much as I can about them.

What is the serial number off the butt of the grip frame including any letters?

Your friend was wrong. The serial number is from the later part of the 1960's. The grips should have blue washers on the back.

Then it makes sense now!

I've got to get me the S&W book.
