Default Grandfather's Revolver

Hello all,

I need some help indentifying my Grandpa's "headboard" revolver. Unfortunately, there's a bit of moisture damage on the barrel due to being stored in a leather holster for many, many years. Also, my Grandpa had a habit of engraving his belongings with his SSN, so this revolver may be relegated to "family heirloom only" status. Nevertheless, I'd like to know the year and model of this pre-K model .38 special revolver for insurance purposes. The serial number is 463716, and has a large ejector rod end cap, and only "made in USA" stamped on the right side. Any info would be greatly appreciated!! I've attached some pictures to help.

Hi

The revolver is a 38 Military and Police Model of 1905 4th change. Early 1920's gun, probably 1923.

Nothing wrong with family heirloom status, my Grandfather's .32 Regulation Police is one of my favorites.

Nice family heirloom. I could not see the SS number on. Did I miss something or did he hide the engraving?

"model of this pre-K model .38 special revolver"

Not sure what you meant by this statement. The M&P revolvers were built on the K frame, from 1899 through today. The letter "K" only appears in the serial number of target K frame revolvers made post WW II.

You have a nice old M&P, by the way.
