Pre war 38/44 Outdoorsman
I puchased this at Kansas City show last weekwend. The box has the serial number of the gun and notation under serial number "HBH". This is the best quality 38/44 Outdoorsman I have seen. Shipped September 1939

I have a couple of prewar ODs that I thought were nice until I saw this one. What a beauty! The "like" button seems inadequate for this revolver; maybe the next version of the forum software can include an "adore" link.
Is that a straight patridge front sight? It looks like there may be a bead in it, but I can't see for sure.
If it shipped with a humpback hammer, it must be a 1938 or 1939 revolver.
Hope you don't mind if I encourage spending more of your money, but I think that one calls for a history letter.

Outstanding Roy, that's one of the nicest I've EVER seen. That would be my dream gun...with the HBH and the box. Looking forward to hearing from the letter once you get it.

That is one outstanding Outdoorsman . . . to go with your equally outstanding 4 inch Heavy Duty from the same show!
Dang, I knew I should have gone to Kansas City last weekend.

Jerry,
Go to the members section on serial number requests and you will find it there. I tried to get Roy to let me take it outside and put some rounds thru it but he wouldn't let me! It is the closest one I've seen to a new gun from the factory. It truly is a beauty!

W O W - What a Beauty!!!!!
Great package. Let me guess - it came with the correct pre-war SAT, the other cleaning tools (unused and in the paper sleeve), the vapor paper and an original O/D sales brochure. All for only $850..... . Am I close?
In all seriousness, the prewar O/D's (both 22 and 38/44) are some of my all-time favorites and that is one of the nicest examples that I have seen.
Congrats and Enjoy (BTW, if you posted a few more photos, it would not hurt my feelings one bit)

As requested more photos but I wiped the gun with RIGRAG and it left an
oily look on the gun.

The additional photos are nice - thanks for putting them up.
When I first saw your post, I immediatey suspected it was the HBH Outdoorsman from the Ray Cheely collection. That is a stunning piece - congratulations.

Roy,
Beautiful package. I found this link to an obit for a Wm. H. Shroyer but he died in 1937. Your gun may have been ordered by his sons.

Whoops. I missed on the middle initial.
Sorry.

I will gladly double the purchase price quoted in the letter and give you $56.54 for it.
All I can say is go buy a lottery ticket...

Lawdy, lawdy that is beautiful. I got one a while back I thought was pretty nice, but that makes mine look kinda tacky.
Thanks for sharing, I think.
