.455 Mk I hammer compatibility question
I got this last week:
I would like to replace the bobbed hammer.
Serial number 12652.
I am wondering if mk II hammer fit or other early N frames? Also is this a drop fit or more of a custom fit deal.
Thanks, Pete

An M1917 hammer should fit, as should a Mk2.
And, sad to say, it is probably not a "drop-in fit", as you have the interaction of the trigger nose, DA sear, and full-cock notch to deal with and they all affect the timing and carry-up.

OK, thanks John.
On the fitting, I suspected that might be the case. I took it apart the other day and was pretty amazed by the awesomeness of the fit and finish of the internals. No rust in there and some of the parts had like a mirror finish. Sounds like the hammer fitting might be a good job for a pro.
Anyway, it's an awesome gun and despite its' roughness, it functions perfectly, so I don't mind shelling out a little dough to get the hammer fixed. I like single action.
I suppose I could also have a tip tig welded on. As you can see it's a shooter and a keeper, not a collectors dream, so maybe the perfect fit of the current hammer with the internals should trump the appearance of the weld issues.
Thanks again for the shared knowledge, Pete

"I like single action."
I would weld on a target or semi-target hammer spur.

Last time I checked, Numrich had nos stripped 1917 triggers in stock.
Added: Pete, I just sent you an email about a CORRECT (with chafing bushings) TL hammer I found in my stash!
