Default 32 long ctg value?

Not sure if this is the correct forum or not because I don't know the age of the gun. Anyway, a local guy has a S&W 32 long he is wanting to sell. He got it in a trade and has no idea of value but says "best offer". Can someone tell me the approximate age and value? Here is a pic and his text......

"For sale S & W 32 Long ctg revolver serial number 422658 pat feb 6 06 sep 14 09 dec 29 14 shoots good Old gun comes with holster. Best offer Just got this gun yesterday in a partial trade."

Mid 1920s. It is either a .32 Hand Ejector Third Model, or a .32 Regulation Police. You'd have to take the rubber grips off to find out which. The HE would have a smoothly curving backstrap and a serial number on the butt. The RP would have a notched ("rebated") backstrap and the serial number would be found on the forestrap behind the trigger guard and above the strain screw. Other than that, there are no differences between the two models. If you wanted to replace the stocks with what came on the gun originally, you would get I-frame round-butt stocks for the HE or standard RP stocks if it has the notched backstrap. Since the gun is from the 1920s, the stocks should not have medallions in them.

Stocks would cost you $50-80, probably, so you should not go over $250-275 on the gun. Others here would suggest you not even go that high.

I'm assuming the action is sound and there are no timing or push-off problems.

I agree with David right down to the penny. If the mechanical condition is good and the bore and chambers are good, then you are dealing with a good shooter grade piece, no more and no less. The Pach's are a bit jarring on a gun of that vintage, and I don't like them anyway, but an original set of wood grips might be findable, or for a shooter, an appropriate set of proper aftermarket grips by Jay Scott or Mustang might find their way onto it if it were mine. If you do buy it, let us know how you enjoy shooting it... I'm guessing it will put a big ole smile on your face!

My 1927 .32 Regulation Police shoots like a dream. It's my favorite range piece. I found a Pachmyr grip adaptor for it here on the forum. They really are very elegant revolvers.
