Default S&W 22 Long Rifle CTG

Like many others I suppose, I have inherited a nice pistol. This is a S&W 22 Long Rigle CTG. The serial number is K378869 and it's a beauty. This was my brother-in-law's pistol. Funny thing, in all the years I spent with him I never knew he had this particular pistol. He had quite a few rifles but the only pistol I ever knew him to have was a 38.

I'm wondering if someone could provide any information about this type of pistol. For example, how old it might be. I'm guessing that some of you might be able to get some idea by the serial number. I'm going to include a few photos. I don't know if he had it re-blued or not, but it is really in nice shape. I doubt that these pistols are worth a lot of money, but I am curious. It's just a very nice little pistol.

I guess I won't include any photos. I can't see how to do that. Sorry.

Thanks,
Jim Graves

Greetings,

I would suggest that you copy your post here in the rifle forum and re-post in the pistol forums. These forums can be interesting to get around in when you're new to them. Some folks, like myself will just read the forum they're interested in at the time.

Good luck on your venture.

Hobie

The serial number puts it as shipped in 1959 - if a 4" barrel, it should be stamped MOD 18 under the barrel with the cylinder out, and MOD 17 if a 6" barrel. Hope this is helpful.
