She is a Smith and Wesson K 32 Masterpiece. She hasn't lead a hard life, but certainly not a sedentary one either. The thin spots in the blueing are from honest use of a Bullseye shooter from the golden age of target shooting. She came from a friend of the family, so as much a keepsake as anything.

Very nice, and with a personal connection to boot.

Hello TargetTech
Welcome to the "Pre-16" K-32 Masterpiece Club. The Five screw variation Pre-16 of the K-32 is the highest demand of K-32 collector gun's and yours certainly is a nice one. Here is another Pre-16 Five screw variation that shipped in April 1951....

Very nice gun, but I like the fact that I can shoot mine on special occasions, and not really degrade the value. I have one safe queen, an unfired 3" 547, and it drives me crazy. I've almost sold it in the past, but I figure -------- it's still better than the stock market.

Hello target tech
It is evident your K-32 has all ready been fired such as mine has. I don't feel shooting a gun degrades it so long as they are cleaned well and not beat around in a Leather holster or carried. Mine see's Range use often and does not show any more use than when I got it lightly fired Five years ago. If your gun were mine I would enjoy it some you don't know what you are missing as these guns shoot scary accurate with very mild recoil making them Very Fun to enjoy... Hammerdown

Concur. There is no reason not to shoot a classic in near new condition provided you handle it carefully while you have it out of the safe and clean it properly once the range trip is over. Now that I think about it, I haven't had my shooter K-32 out in over a year. It may go along with me on the next range outing.

If I had an old gun that I knew to be NIB or had good reason to think had not been fired since leaving the factory, I would probably leave it alone. But if it has obviously been fired, permission to fire it again has been granted; what has NOT been granted is permission to treat it carelessly or inattentively.

Very nice revolver, target tech. I agree with Hammerdown and DCWilson, nothing wrong with shooting a nice gun as long as it is properly cared for.

My 5 screw K-32 was shipped in April 1956 and has seen plenty of use over the years, but still looks pretty good.

For the pre 16 group, I heard a story this weekend at a local gun show. "Older gentleman (70's) comes into the gun shop with 2 guns he wants to sell. Wonders if he could get $200 each"

First gun was the pre 16 and the second gun was a pre 26 1950 Target model. Both guns in 95% condition but not sure about boxes or tools. Dealer offered the man quite a bit more and he walked out a very surprised and happy man.

Just goes to show that they are still out there and can be found in great condition.

Glad they offered him more than $200. The sharks at the two gunshows I have been to this month would have offered him $50 for both. I saw a well used 25-5 for $1299 in Atlanta last week.

I was really supprised whenI went looking for a box of ammo for the K 32. When I walked into the gun shop I had my choice of probably four or five different guys behind the counter. --- Ace sporting goods is the biggest gun shop left in the Pittsburgh area. I picked the guy wearing not one but two S&W J frames of some sort. I figured he might have some idea what I'm talking about. He was actually really supprised that I knew exactly what I wanted, S&W .32 long. He asked what it was for, and when I said a K 32, I was really supprised he knew what I was talking about. He told me that he had just gotten one himself. One was brought into the shop a couple of weeks ago. He said the finish was almost perfect except for the guys name scratched into the frame....ouch. So point of this is, that there are still a few very knowledgeable revolver guys out there in gun shops who aren't old enough to have fought in the Vietnam war. Hats off to Ace SG

TT-do a little online shopping and you can find .32 long ammo for pretty reasonable $$. I bought a case of Fiocci wadcutter for about $14 a box. Don't remember from where but you can find it easily enough.

TT don't leave us hanging, give us the range report ASAP!! Looking at the pictures is there some wear on the ejector rod? Fine looking K-32 and I am sure you'll need a bunch of ammo and remember if you miss the bullseye with that gun, it is your fault!!

The range report will have to wait. I took the Jeep in for some cosmetic body work last week, and only have the Yamaha to get arround with. I should get the Jeep back Thursday, but I leave for a MC trip up to New England on Sunday --- Sorry

Buying .32 long ammo at the local gun shop or a gun show can be an expensive proposition. I buy the Fiocchi wadcutters online from The Sportsman's Guide when they run their occasional free shipping specials. Net cost is about $14 per box, and I usually get that down to about $11 by selling the used brass.
