Default Moment of Silence for 1917 s/n 10637

It's really sad. I just got a "parts kit" for a 1917. The external parts I got had at least 90% finish except for the underside of the barrel where someone had polished off the "US Property". The bore is almost perfect and the chambers in the cylinder are. Somewhere either an owner transgressed or someone passed away and an heir turned the revolver in. It would have made a superior shooter. Darn shame.

Where do these "parts kits" come from? I recently purchased a group of parts for a Colt new army and the external parts were waaay nicer than the pistol I am restoring. Are they from buy-back programs or what?

Either buy-back programs or confiscated guns.

It's like crushing a car because some drunk ran over a pedestrian with it!

***-which has more than one meaning besides tears.

Burt, did you get a grooved hammer with the parts?

Do you REALLY think he's gonna tell you where his honey hole is loacated? I've known Burt for 40 years and he still likes to lord it over me when he gets some goodies.

There used to be a dealer that came to the PGCA shows in the 80s and early 90s. All he sold was parts off of confiscated guns from police depts. There was always alot of really nice stuff that you had to wonder, how nice the the original whole gun was. From what I understand, he must have been stripping them himself, and got greedy. I believe he ended up in the federal pen for taking a couple very highend complete guns that he came across, home with him. needles to say he disapeared and never seen again.
