My sweet K22
Still having issues with my K 22. Works great in double action but "hangs" in single action. Got the gunsmith screwdriver set and took the side plate off, removed the cylinder, cleaned everything and put it back together. No help. Talked to S&W this past week and they told me they are pretty sure they can fix it. Someone told me my serial number is 1957, but I thought I read here that was the year they cut to the Model 17. Anybody know what year my was made, K291962.
Thanks,
Reb

1957 is right; the year was 365 days long, so it's not like on January 1 every gun had a model number stamped in it. There is no clear transition between model-marked and non-model-marked guns. NMM guns can be found with serial numbers above K330000, but the transition to model marking is generally taken to have happened around K325000. For whatever reason, it looks as though model-marked guns weren't shipping until late 1958.
Another complication is that S&W didn't record its guns' manufacturing dates. It only knows when it shipped a particular number, and there was no policy that forced shipping in serial number order. It is possible for guns with lower numbers to ship a long time after higher-numbered guns.

I have a K 371,XXX and a K 404,XXX that are both model marked. Unfortunately, I have nothing in the K 200,XXX range to get closer for you. Guess I need to go buy more.
