Default old .44 Hand Ejector

This old 44 Spl. was found at the Crawfordsville In. gun show this past weekend. The finish is thin & the grips are worn but it locks up tight and functions normal. I thought the 5" barrel was different and didn`t even notice the HPD marking on the backstrap untill I got home. This turns out to be one of 300 prewar 3rd models sent to Wolf & Klar for the Houston Police Dept in 1931. Any Idea of value considering its condition. thanks charlie

I've seen those HPD .44s go for $1000 to $1200 in the past few years.

To follow up on Gil's comment, it also has not been re-blued or nickled. That is a good thing.

Charlie,
I had a HPD gun, 34774, briefly. It belongs to a member here on the forum now. The gun showed use but the grips were mint-go figure!

What a fine old (with lots of character) LEO 44 Special. I just love guns like that one. (smiley face goes here)

Congratulations on a good find,
Dave

Thumbs up

You've done well finding rare ( & high condition ) revolvers lately.

We live in a "target rich" environment, little shows can have gold nuggets.

Good job!

It's really not worth very much in that condition. If you like, I will take it off your hands for what you have into it. You just take care of the shipping.

Down here in Houston they are somewhat popular. If you want to send it back "home" I could probably find a local collector that would make an offer on it.
