1917 Price Check
I've wanted one of these for quite awhile.
In particular, I'd like one with original blueing in decent condition.
The main thing is I do not want a Brazilian army model.
I was hoping someone more knowledgeable could give me a ballpark price range on the S&W 1917.

Interest in the 1917 has grown recently. Prices seen to be running close to $1,000. If you can find a decent one for $750 to $1,000 buy it. Those under $750 tend to be in shooter condition only with significant finish loss.

That's what I had feared but oh well, you pay for quality.
Thanks for the tip.

I would also like to have one. Saw an extremely high condition example at a local gunshow yesterday priced at $1,150! I passed. Seller also had a very, very nice 38/44 HD priced at $950 that he said he would sell for $875. Thought hard about it. Passed.

IMO, prices are such that it's not a good time to buy but who knows what the future holds. This is based on what they used to sell for back in the day.
$1000 for a decent 1917 may be a bargain 5 years from now as I don't see the bottom falling out of the 1917 market. New model 1917's are being made but I don't have any. It's not the same as to why I own them.
From your post you seem to want a quality shooter or maybe collector grade. If a shooter is what you're wanting, I wouldn't exclude a Brazilian but even they have significantly increased in value over what they used to sell for. The last one I bought was $150.
