George Lawrence holster (pic added)
Picked up a Geo Lawrence vintage holster at local gunshow this weekend. Tag said J frame and it looked to fit a 4".
My 4" won't go all the way in, it looks a little long for the 2". I'm thinking a 3" chief or Det Spl, neither common models.
The holster is basket weave in really nice condition, it is stamped 35BR above the George Lawrence logo and 540 below.
If anyone has an old catalog that could look this one up, I would appreciate it. I may have to buy a gun that fits.
the baby chief fits fine, although I think it would take a 3". Although the colt DS would go in, the trigger guard area did not fit right.

According to the Lawrence size selector chart in the 1968 Shooters Bible, holster size No. 540 fits a 2" Chiefs Special, Hand Ejector or Terrier.

George Lawrence holster
I'm at work currently but IIRC 540 is the size code
for a 2" Chiefs Special & like revolvers. I'll double check
when I get home later.

Thanks guys. exactly what i was looking for.
I bought it for the 4" j frames, but it will do nicely for my chief spl and 2" kit guns. The 2" det spl fit well also.
will get a pic up tonight hopefully.

Nice snag Charlie!!!
I knew I should have purchased that before you saw it, oh, that's right, you called my attention to it. I liked it then and still like it, wish there was something to prevent the revolver from falling out of the holster though!

Hey Sam
There is a hole on the inside, hammer height, that would provide for a leather thong to keep the gun secure. The fit is tight so the orig owner probably didn't see a need for it.
