Default Un-Opened box of Remington U.M.C. .45 acp ammunition for model of 1917 revolver.....

I thought I would share this with ya'll. I'm not a big ammunition collector, but when this came along I couldn't pass it up

This is an un-opened, full box of Remington U.M.C. .45 acp ammo for model of 1917 revolver. It is 24 rounds in half-moon clips.

Nice score! I have a few similar boxes for the 1911, but the Model 1917 boxes seem to be a lot harder to find.

Very cool. Several years ago you could find that kind of stuff at gun shows, now it seems to have dried up.

Back in the mid 1990's I stumbled across a couple of boxes of the .45 cal shot shells that were issued to aircrews in the Pacific during WWII for hunting small game in case they were shot down.

Chris,

That is a very nice collectible. Congratulations!

There are actually two types of boxes of the .45ACP in the half moon clips. That one is called the "zig-zag" because the clips are alternating as they face each other. The other is called the "spoons" because the clips are stacked like spoons in a drawer.

Bob,
Thanks for that great information!! I was not aware that there were two kinds. Do you have pictures of the "spoons" type?

I'm sorry that I don't have pictures. I do have a box of each type that has been opened so I'll try to get some pictures to post.

Very cool. I just lucked into a few boxes of 1920's and 1930's 1911 ammo, but that tops my score.

I also have this full, opened box from 1918 that only mentions the 1911 on the box.

Chris,

Here are a couple of photos of the two types of M1917 ammo in clips.

They are both REM-UMC. The "Spoon" is headstamped 17 and the "Zig-zag" is headstamped 18.

Great find Chris!
And Bob, I can't believe you have two boxes!

I've been putting together a collection. At the heart of it is a Army issue M1917 in near mint condition, a bunch of half moon clips, an all original web belt rig including holster, lanyard, ammo pouch, canteen, and 1st aid pouch.

The big thing missing at the moment is a box of original 1/2 moon clipped ammo. So if either of you ever wants to part with a box of that, let me know!

Also of course, if anybody else comes across any drop me a line. There's a good chance I'd be interested.

I also have a 95%+ "Brazilian", and another completely refinished and re-barreled Army issue M1917 that is the current shooter out of the collection. Eventually I 'd like round this out with every variant of the S&W manufactured M1917 pistol I can find - and manage to pay for!

Richard.

Richard,

Welcome to the Forum. It sounds like you have put together a very nice collection of these historic pieces. We would love to see some pictures of them.

Since it looks like you have focused on the M1917, don't pass up a chance to add a Colt M1917 if you get a chance. Comparing the features of both is informative.

Bob

I like the brass care instructions on the back of some of the WWI vintage ammo. Brass was in short supply and the primers were corrosive.

Makes you wonder just how many followed the instructions to clean and repack the brass? Somehow I just don't see this being done.

Default 45 ACP 1917 in clips

hi
Here are a couple of boxes of the 1917 in clips. One is from Peters the other from Remington.
Got these from Lee in Tulsa last show, lee also had a box of the spoon ones.
They are not cheap I looked through all the tables at Tulsa and these were the only ones for sale.
