you have a .38 M&P or a pre 10 as some call them. probably made early 50s. the numbers inside the crane are assembly numbers only. the ser nr should also be on the rear of the cylinder and the underside of the barrel, visible when the cylinder is open, on the back of the ejector star and the back side of the crane, visible thru a chamber. nice guns. trigger sounds like it was replaced. enjoy it. they are addictive and other barrel lengths will have to follow. lee

M60, sounds like you'll have some fun shooting that thing. I have a 1905 4th. change, with a 6" barrel.(M&P) It left Smith in june of 1919. Check under your grips, and see if they are numbered to the gun. They made these guns for over 90 years for a reason!

Smooth, wide triggers were not available from S&W when your revolver was built.

Smooth triggers are great for double action work.

I'm guessing about 1950-51 on this one. Typical M&P in blue with a 4" barrel. This is the most popular configuration. The trigger has likely been swapped at some point.

M60A3,

It looks like someone installed a .312" combat trigger in your M&P. It's fairly easy to swap triggers. I've installed a bunch of target and combat triggers into different revolvers over the years. For a while, my fellow cops wanted target triggers and hammers in their duty guns.
