Default Could use some help with a few old leather gun holsters

Got these in a collection of military items. Wondering if anyone could help me determine year and possible value. One is marked H.H. Heiser 1535. Not my area of expertise. Any help would be appreciated.

I am willing to sell these. Please send me an offer. I will make a quick decision. Appreciate the interest.

Default Heiser...............

was in business in Denver Colorado from the mid 1870s thru the late 1950s. Your holster is one that was prob. made sometime in the 1930s -40s period with basketweave tooling.Looks to fit a large frame revolver but don't have the model # code handy to be exact.

Very nice holster!

Heiser model numbers don't generally tell what gun would fit it. Instead they describe the holster design and finish. Not what most of us have learned to expect these days. Its kind of a shame, too.

The best way to guess at what fits it is to just try a few guns in it.

As to value, the Heiser is in great demand these days. For a company that has been out of business for over 50 years, they still bring very healthy prices.

With a good number of them, you can turn the holster to the side in good light and sometimes see a penciled or ball point inscription of what it was made for. I'm guessing its a later thing, but its a clue. I don't even know when ball point pens became into general use.

OK, thread drift:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ballpoint_pen

It seems ball point pens were invented so they could write on leather!!

That impacts this thread because it would seem many holsters do have gun names or types written on them around the model number.

I collect these type and brand of holsters (the heiser that is) though I am not an expert in ANY way. Heiser built holsters either the top of the line or economy. The flap holster usually came in 2 different qualities. The top of the line is what I call double smooth. It is hard to describe but I will try. Leather has a smooth side and a rough side. The smooth side of course was the exterior of the holster. The double smooth holster used two piece of leather. They sewed the two rough sides togeather and then made the holster. Thus both the inside and outside of the holster were equally attractive. The less valuable holster was only single layer of leather and was rough on the inside. The flap holster was and is an outdoorsmans holster, as it had a closed toe and the flap. This kept mud and debris from entering either from the top or bottom.

You left out the shearling lined models. When you see one, you just spend the money and buy it (unless its for a Woodsman or High Standard.)

Heiser made a fair number of lined holsters. The best (in my opinion) are the shearlings, sheep hide if you must, lined. The outer and structural parts of the holster are cowhide, usually tooled. But the sewn in lining is the sheep skin cut short. Pretty nice, but very scarce.

I've seen but didn't buy a swede lined holster. The reason for not buying it was it wasn't for a gun I owned. My collecting needs to be for useful items.
