Can not access the files without registering. I have too many passwords already to remember them all, so did not access your 7 photos. Give the "Manage Attachments" option a try on the forum. When you are composing your post, look down the page and open Manage Attachments, then click Browse to find your photos on your hard drive. Once found, just click Upload. You can add up to 5 pictures I think and they will embed in your post.

I don't know anything about Snapfish, but if it has good reviews for reliability and uptime, go for it. I can't get into your album without registering, which I probably won't do because I have too many site registrations already and am not looking for more.

I have found Photobucket reliable for three or four years as a free hosting source, though their increasing site complexity and ads make me think I may want to move on. Also, Photobucket has problems shaking hands with Firefox, which I have been using for three or four years and may also be about to abandon. Go back to IE? Maybe. Chrome looked pretty good when I sampled it.

The subscription service SmugMug gets a lot of high marks, and I thought I would give it a try if I bail on Photobucket.

My ISP is Comcast, they give you 1 gig of file storage for each username. Maybe your ISP has a similar offering.

I have used Fototime for years without a single glitch ! As backup I keep all of my photos safely stored on a 16Gig Flashdrive as well as the computer hard drive.

From what I can make out the web provider shut them down. They were running three or four sites. The reason at this time is unclear although the owner has professed looking for another provider. It's been over a month. All my grip pics were there and now, POOF, see ya. I'm totally bummed.

I have been using 'smugmug'. I paid a small annual fee and there are no ads and the upload is simple. I use a macbook pro and iPhoto and the interface is simple drag and drop.

This really shows the quality of the photos you took and the ease by which they can be viewed makes it very user friendly for me as a computer midget. Sorry you lost your former provider and I know you will have extra work because of it but this one looks good to me! If you were looking for opinions, I hope.

In the for-what-its-worth department, I've always been skeptical of
the internet revenue model that gives away services in return for
advertising revenues. I've always thought that, as some point, the
adverrtisers are going to wake up and realize that most, if not all, of
the hits on their ads are meaningless. Its a waste of money, after
all is said and done.

Its fun while it lasts, but it can't last. Its like the old saying
"There is no free lunch."

After all is said and done, probably the best thing to do would be to
pay some fee to Lee Jarrett, to support this web site, and to cover
the cost of on-line storage. If he can make ends meet, it ought to be
a good deal for everyone. Storing the pictures here would be as
good as any other place.

Regards, Mike Priwer

Mike:

I agree with your comments !

But, I do not think Lee would appreciate me storing many hundreds of photos of my dogs, old girlfriends, or research materials ! Fototime has work very well for me but does require a small annual fee.

If you are still married, its probably time to get rid of the pictures of
old girl friends ! And the dogs, as well.

I'd like to through my hat into the ring for SmugMug also. Reasonable yearly fee and very very easy to link or embed photos.

Mike I like your idea and I appreciate everyone's input. I'm going to see how flexible this FotoTime is. I really like the album feature and it seems easy to use.
Thanks to all,
DW
