My 1951 K-22 has scratches all over it......
Some of them are pretty deep, and all over under and around it

Junk it. You should be embarrassed to own such a thing. A man should take better care of his guns.

A sanding disc on a Dremel tool could probably be used to remove that.

You drag any gun through the wildnerness and drop it on rocks from time to time, that's what will happen to all of them. Too bad that's a five-screw. Time was that S&W could have fixed that gun up for you with a new surface, but they won't work on the old ones any more. I'm afraid you'll just to live with the consequences.
Can you tell me exactly what kind of rocks you dropped yours on? Might be helpful for the rest of us to know.

Beautiful gun but it isn't a 1941. It's from the mid 1950's. It's a pre-15, .38 Combat Masterpiece.

Over the years, I have seen examples of Harold F. Kent signed guns, always on the bottom of the trigger guard. Google him and you will find some results.
Pawn shop engraved.....who knows. But his work is out there.
Anyone care to share other examples...?

Wow, you've shown some really neat guns here. It would be fun to sit and talk abt them with you. How abt a close up of you're scratched gun to see the detail of it. Very nice, did you buy it recently? Larry

I'd guess the 'Harold F. Kent' was the owner or person the gun was engraved for.
Just my guess judging by the size of the lettering of the name on the trigger guard of the couple I've seen which were large and covered the entire guard front to back.
It just didn't look like an engravers signiture,,more like an owner.
Is yours lettered the same way on the TG or does it have smaller, discrete lettering.
You do come up with some neat stuff!

How'd that one get by me?
Anyway, bring it on down here when you head on down to town and the laundromat and DJ can buff them scratches out for you while you wait...

That's a darn shame.
Tell ya what. I'm not a real stickler for pristine finishes. I'll give ya $300 for it and you can put that towards a nice NEW gun!

Yep, signed in the exact same manner...
I wouldn't mind having that k-38 Target that was around a few years back. Totally different look, but you could tell it was the same engraver.

Don't worry they will buff out. A little cold blue and you'll never know they were there.

We've warned you for years not to put your guns on those rocks to take pictures......it's a wonder more of 'em don't have scratches!!
Nice K-22, congrats on the find.

Ah . . . just put it in an electric brass tumbler with about 500 pieces of various size spent cartridges and it should even out the scratches so it doesn't look so bad.
