Without any references to look at, I have to assume that a K22 with a five digit, 10K range serial number, and five screw frame has to be a bit "experienced". Experience this one certainly has! Not much finish left on it, it's been beat, bashed, and abused. The crane has been replaced with a much later piece. Cylinder in desperate need of end shake adjustment. To it's credit, it has a very, very nice, crisp bore, and the chambers are nice as well. Have misplaced my .22 range rod, so I can't check alignment after 'they' replaced the crane. Looking at it from the top, it still appears that the barrel points off to the left somewhere, but then, I have nasty astigmatism...
I checked (for s & g's), and the grip panels are serialized, but NOT to this revolver.
It was "nearly" given to me, I think I ended up with around $200 in the thing, and figured it'd be worth that much to part it out if I had to.
Any notion as to when this thing was made?

K22 with s/n K10495 was shipped in December 1947 so I suspect yours was close.

edit to add: the asterisk next to the serial number would indicate it made a return trip to the S&W factory. Is there a date code on the left side of the frame under the grips? It would look something like 6.65 if the re-work was done in June, 1965.

Linde, I had to look under my lighted magnifier, and there are three very small serifed numbers, appear to be 3.50. I doubt that S&W did this latest "work", there appear to be vise marks on the buttress where the barrel threads into the frame, in addition to obviously mismatched crane.

I, too, have "sinned". I traded my .38-44 HD for a 1947 CJ2A.......

1941 is gone. Got over $3,000 for it. I still have the Thompson, one 03-A3, one USMC M1903, one Winchester Garand, one standard carbine, one M1A1 Paratrooper, and a near mint 1943 Colt M1911A1. Could not bring myself to sell them. Oh I also have a 1929 vintage Style "T" that I invested in. 98%+ Springfield Heavy bbl. Target Rifle. Reallllly nice. Big Larry

I was in the local gun shop, and there was what appeared to be a sporterized 03A3 sitting there. When I picked it up, I discovered it was a polished an blued A4. Ended up taking it out the door for $225. It's now wearing a new High Standard barrel, and like to shoot right under 3/4 inch with the right load and conditions. Other than that, not much. After retiring, I find that I'm so broke that I can't even pay attention!
