Thought Long And Hard About It....
Jim,
I looked that gun over pretty closely... I just couldn't decide it it was straight or not....
The Cabella's gun... enlarged and slightly enhanced.
A 4" 29 from the same era in my collection...
The stocks on the Cabela's gun look right as does the front sight blade, but the marking locations to me look more consistant with that of a 6 1/2" gun.
I questioned that it might have been shortened.
Here's a 6 1/2" Pre-29 also from my collection.... note the postition of the caliber markings....
Cabela's didn't do themselves any favors by not listing their gun's aproximate serial number, and the pitch of the gun in their photograph makes accurate measurement difficult...
I thought that the description would have been written in a more precise way if the person doing so was really up on S&W.... For well over $2K, tax and delivery this wasn't that hot a deal TO ME even if the gun was correct.... In the end, I passed. The relined case and missing tools were a deal breaker.

Pre 29 5" Nickel
Jim-
What a beauty. If it's the real deal--more proof that Cabela's doesn't always pay attention. Here's hoping we see more pix soon.
Jim
Drew-
Man, ask and you will receive--thanks for sharing.

The barrel markings do look wrong. The side plate stamping does look legit as compared to one tat Docc44 has pictured in his albums.
Looking back at Doc44's I think the barrel markings look correct as well.

Sweet and I thought I was on a collecting hot streak!!! I've gotten a pre-29 case, several diamond target stocks, and a great Triple-Lock in two weeks...but a 5" Nickel Pre-29 takes it.
Ha, I didn't notice at first it's been 5-yrs! Now that takes building suspense to another level.

Yes sir! Resurrected a zombie thread to close the loop. Amazing Minnesota discovery 3 hours drive from my house. Brought the righteous revolver in to the collection Sunday 2/12/17 and will post more pics with story expansion in a new thread.

Just saw the pictures, WOW!
The gun and stocks look great.
I'd like to have one of those to go along with my blue one.
