A couple days ago I looked at a 22/32 with serial number 295042. The chambers are not recessed. Finish is about 90%, maybe a bit better.
What I wondered about was the stocks. They do not have any pencil numbers on the inside of the right panel. Moreover, they looked to me like stocks from a .32 Regulation Police. They even had the June 5, 1917 patent date stamped on the bottom. The grip frame had the stepped shoulder on it, like an RP. I believe that is normal on a Heavy Target, but I'm not sure.
The SCSW does not address this issue at all. The only information on the .22 HT is all about the Bekeart Model which, as I understand it, had a very different set of stocks. The only examples of a .22 HT I've personally seen or handled had the Bekeart style stocks.
The question is whether the .22 HT was ever shipped with the RP style stock, or were these likely added as replacement stocks to this gun somewhere along the line?
Any help you I frame guys can give me on this would be greatly appreciated.

Pre-war Kits, Regulation Police and others of this frame size are enountered with similar "Pat 1917" stocks, but they only have one screw...

That was exactly my question. All the HFTs that I have seen had stocks like those in your first 3 photos. The one I saw the other day had stocks like the RP in your 4th photo. I was assuming they had been added later and were originally on an RP. Sounds like they could have originally been on a Kit Gun as well. Is that right? And the stepped grip frame is the same on all three?

Yes, actually the 4th photo IS a Pre-war Kit...

Even though the dominant stocks on the .22/32 HFT were the extension stocks (and they were the ONLY stocks from 1911-1917), there were some .22/32 HFTS provided with the RP stocks on a rebated frame in the late 'teens and afterward.

In profile, these .22/32s with the more compact square butt stocks looked exactly like the .32 RP target, for which the RP stocks were standard. I imagine some .32s were shipped or later equipped with the two-screw extension stocks.

The serial number you mentioned probably shipped in late 1919 or 1920. The stocks you saw on the gun, if original to it, might have had either medallions or no medallions depending on where in the range it fell.

You should be able to check the rebated frame and see if it shows evidence of aftermarket work to accept RP stocks. If it looks as though the stepped contour was cut at the factory, the RP stocks are probably original. If the cut is a little rough, with visible flat file marks and a rough surface to it, the gun probably shipped with extension stocks and was adapted to take the RP stocks later. I have a prewar Kit Gun that shipped as a round butt gun, but which was later independently modified to take RP stocks.

The extension stocks will fit on either rebated or non rebated frames.

The stocks did, indeed, have the recessed medallions. They were in quite nice condition.
I'll have to call the guy and take a look at the rebated frame to see if there is evidence of post-factory filing.
