Long as we're talkin' about bobbed single actions, I have to say I like 'em shorter rather than longer. This is an old 3 screw Ruger Super Blackhawk that I chopped several years ago, replaced the grip frame and cylinder pin and did a few other odds 'n ends. The picture ain't much good, and it sure ain't as purty as Dave's scratched up guns, but it's a thumper for sure. It really likes the 300 gr. bullets and I believe it shoots better now than it did when it was new.

Daym! I know Rosa! She's a Real Pistol! You ever see her when she's Loaded?
I ever tell you about the time Rosa and her cousin Ora Lee hired out as camp wenches by my old compa~ Lalo for a little bird hunt down in the Big Bend? Was me, Lalo, our huntin' buddy Chappo, Rosa and Ora Lee all jammed into Lalo's new club cab power wagon and things was kinda close... being tooth to jowl things got friendly right quick and we never made it past Lajitas before them girls wanted somethin' cool to drink and to lay up in the shade til sundown ... I wanted to go huntin' but the next thing I know Chappo and Lalo had a coupla rooms and shootin those soiled doves was all they was thinkin' about. I got disgusted with the whole mess (mostly 'cause I was the odd man out), took the truck, made the loop up to Terligua and shot a few whitewings off Hen Egg Mountain. When I got back to the hotel a coupla days later, them boys was hangin' round the pool nursing hang overs and moaning about how they sold their guns to pay the hotel bill 'cause them ladies had skinned them of everything but their pants. As it was I had to empty my own wallet to finish payin' off the tab. With his head in his hands Lalo said "it's a good thing you took the truck... they'da gotten that too!" Chappo was just sittin' there lookin' foolish with an addled grin on his face and said "hell, I'm gonna marry them gals... both of them!" Good thing I had a cooler full of doves and halfa bottle of Sotol stashed under the seat or we woulda starved and died of thirst before we got to Redford.

Doggone it, Drew. You had to go and mention Terlingua. My new bride and I made it to the 2nd annual Chili Cookoff (back in 1970 I think). Went there in a tank of a long wheelbase '69 Toyota Land Cruiser, slept on the ground and had to brush the tarantulas off our sleeping bags to get up to answer nature's call in the middle of the night. Pretty primitive then but it looked just like this film from 2009. Only difference is the kids in this film hadn't been thought of 40 years earlier...but they are enjoying it just like we did.

Bob, First time I was in Terlingua was about 10 years after you. Was mid winter and cold as hell. Wind was whippin' up something fierce and the only place we could pitch the tent and start a fire was in a dry wash backed up to one of the mountains. Woke up to a rustling in camp and an odd whistling grunt sound. Convinced that we were being molested by a pack of chupacabra I boiled out of the tent dressed only in a 870 Riot in one hand and my trusty Highway Patrolman in the other. Musta looked pretty silly standing there half awake and naked only to find it was a herd of javelina rooting their way up the arroyo and through our camp. But we was surrounded!

Thank You
This thread is a main reason I come here. Yes the revolvers are magnificent, but the life and experiences, these are special. Working revolvers have a soul.

You know, neubert, until you posted that I hadn't thought of it. I thought that these ramblin's of a bunch of old men were just drifts to take our minds off of that beautiful McGivern model Outdoorsman that Dave made. Your comment reminded me that the title of Dave's thread could just as easily refer to the makin' of many of the outdoors men here.

Y'all got me to thinkin...Which sumtimes turns into a chore or trouble.
These 'Tools of the Trade' or 'Sportin Arms' are jest an extention of our personallities and mirrows our inner most...Whatevers.
I'm kind like that ol Outdoorsman. Still got most of my original finish, although abit thin in places.
Had a few parts replace, been overhauled and soup'd up a lit'l.
But I'm still jest hangin in there like a hair in a biscuit.
Su Amigo,
Dave

It aint the years...only a slight thread drift
It's the miles . I aint as long in the toof as some y'all cowpokes but I am carrying the marks of a bunch o'stuff I ought notta made it through. I doubt age is making me any wiser, just maybe a little choosier .
Here's a pre-24 I picked up a spell back that's had a pretty salty whittlin on. Cut to 5" with a 29-2 cylinder shaved to make it fit the frame window. Kinda wish I'd kept it.
Not as purty as Dave's but kinda neat.
Oh, and here's my ponie with a few more pounds and the right gear (tack)...just cuz
