Default 32 ca 6 shot long

Trying to get info on this gun. Behind the cylinder is 1351(model #?), the sn is 52838. Dual action. States 32 long ctg on barrel. Smith and wesson logo on left side. TOp of barrel states smith and wesson springfield, mass. Has several patent dates, last one is July 1903. It is a 4 inch non pinned sight. Has pearl handles, but I think they are not original. Anyone have an ideal on this one and a value. It is nickel with some pitting.

If you have a 32-20 Hand Ejector, the sn 52838 is a Model of 1905 Third Change. These revolvers were made from 1909 to 1915, so is is considered a "modern" gun by ATF standards. These 32s came in a 4" or 6" barrel with a forged front sight. Looks like about 20,000 were made.

Add some pictures if you can.

I hate to disagree, but I think this is a .32 Hand Ejector Model of 1903. It is built on the small I frame, whereas the .32-20 (a different cartridge) was offered on the K-frame platform.

That looks like a low serial number for the I frame because S&W started the .32 HE numbering all over again with the Second Model, or Model of 1903. This gun would have been shipped about 1907.

Value is hard to establish without a good sense of the gun's condition, but high condition early .32s of this type have been selling at $300 and languishing at $400.

And yes, please post some pics.

David - thanks for the clarification - I was not certain what the poster had without pics, that is why I stated "If you have a 32-20"

Pictures give us the best idea of what we are dealing with and I wish everyone would post pics. Besides we all like to see vintage S&Ws!
