Your SV 800003 is a very late Victory from 1945.
Given your description, it did not leave the factory with that 2” barrel. To be original, or at least period-correct, it would have to have the V serial complete underneath, not just the P proof.
Checking post #119, which you referenced, shows a 4” barreled Victory with a cut barrel. If yours looks the same, that’s what you have. The give-away is the absence of the front barrel lug, which was cut away post-surplus with the front part of the barrel (where the caliber stamping was also located).

Thank you for the information. I guess I don't really need to scope out a letter as I'd never find the original bbl. Then again i may actually have the original bbl and it is all I'm going to ever get. No matter to me I like it the way it is. Now if someone wants this revolver I'd be willing to consider a trade and some $$ to add a good serviceable .22 S&W revolver to my family of use 'um like you need 'um guns.
Again, thank you for the information.
Now I'm wondering if our two revolvers (#119 and mine) were done by the same person? Guess we will find out when we meet the pistolsmith later on.

Hi
I have just purchased a Victory revolver and wondered what I could find out about it from you knowledgeable folks here?
Its a 5" model with # v314131. It has US Property GHD on the top.

Welcome to the forums from the Wiregrass! It's a British Service Revolver chambered for .38 S&W. It was sent to Australia and was sold out of service there. Other more knowledgeable folks will be along shortly to provide more information.

It is a Victory model from mid-1943 sent to Britain under Lend-lease and then, as Guy said, sent to Australia or issued to Australian troops elsewhere by way of British resupply.
It was then refurbished in 1955 in Australia at the Lithgow Small Arms Factory, shown by the FTR/MA 55 stamp.
Most of these were later re-imported to the US by Vega Arms of Sacramento CA, so there may be a Vega mark on the frame.
I also think the gun was refinished again after Lithgow, possibly in the US, since all the markings are under the latest finish; Lithgow always stamped into their finish and it shows, as in the picture below:

That one is very nice. It is almost certainly a postwar civilian revolver that most likely shipped in March, 1946. The serial number, commercial blue and plugged swivel hole all attest to that. Do the stocks have the correct serial number stamped on the inside of the right hand stock panel? They have the postwar style checkering on them and appear to be in the same high condition as the gun itself.

Well, they could have been on K78826, which could have shipped in 1949 or 1950.
I wondered because SV810433 very likely shipped with Magnas that had the prewar style checkering. Most of them that I've found with that low a number and original stocks had the earlier pattern of checking.

Yes. It is unusual. But, since this one was assembled in the months just after the war, someone obviously missed a step when applying the roll stamps.

Hello! I just purchased a Victory, it is s/n 453923. I believe this would put it around November 1943 from some of the other posts I've seen here?

That is a standard military, likely Navy-shipped, Victory which was issued post-war to German police.
WB is the state of Württemberg-Baden and HLBN the city of Heilbronn. Having that marking in two locations is an oddity; usually it was only on the backstrap.

I have somewhere a piece of paper with the name of the pilot to whom it was issued to. Ive been looking everywhere for it and can't find it. From what I remember, it was issued late 1942 and came back with him in late war. It sat in a box until 2020 when it was given to me.

Serial Number: V 350227 (matching on barrel & cylinder)
Top Strap: U.S. PROPERTY G.H.D.

No import markings, that I can find.

S&W did not record the date of manufacture, only shipping date. From the Victory Model Database I can estimate for you that your revolver likely shipped from the factory in July, 1943.

V2429 - hole is not drilled.
Nickel coated with bone or anter grip. 38 S&W special ctg barrell appears to be 5”. Inside is stamped F6 47261.

You need to post some pictures of that one, especially the right side of the barrel and a shot into the cylinder chambers with lighting from the front of the gun so we can see into the chambers. Measure the barrel from the muzzle to the front of the cylinder. S&W wouldn't have made this in nickel with a filled lanyard swivel hole. So, work was done on it after it served its duty during WWII. Also, check the serial number is the same under the barrel on the extractor rod flat, on the breech face of the cylinder and on the butt of the gun.

It appears that this Victory model has had a 6" .38 special barrel fitted to it, sometime after WW II.
It started out as a British Service Revolver and the .38 S&W cylinder has been re-chambered to .38 special.

What is the serial number under the barrel? Also, your gun is missing the extractor rod locking bolt, spring and pin. The gun will function ok without them but the cylinder would be more stable if you reinstalled them. You can find the parts at Gun Parts & Firearm Accessories | Numrich Gun Parts.

Those are assembly numbers and fitter or inspector's mark. What is the number under the barrel...if there is one?

Unfortunately I do not see any numbers on the barrel. The only markings would be smith & Wesson on the left and 38 s&w special ctg on the right.

Well, no serial on the barrel confirms Gil's conclusion the barrel was replaced. That should improve the accuracy a bit. Enjoy your shooter!

I have a 38 special victory and am wondering the year of manufacture. Under grips, V - 356021. What I am curious about is on right strap infront and ontop of trigger guard it reads MADE IN U.S.A. Also on right side there is the smith and wesson logo. US Property G.H.D on top left above cylinder. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Some pics would be most helpful, but sounds like you have a standard Victory model that most likely shipped in July 1943. Have you removed the grips to see if they are numbered to the gun?

V201083. Standard four inch, 38 Special. I suspect a DSC gun, belonged to a long time deputy in the area. Someone engraved his name and badge number on it, I imagine when he retired. Adds a bit of history to it. Last I knew he was still alive and living in an assisted living home just up the street from me. I'm thinking late '42.
Also have a UK Victory, V579739. Standard five inch. I'm thinking 1944.

Also have a UK Victory, V579739. Standard five inch. I'm thinking 1944.

Around Jan. 1943 on the first one, April/May 1944 on the second one.
If the guy is indeed still alive whose name and badge no. is on the US Victory, you can enhance the resale value to collectors by documenting the gun’s use, like department, times, maybe get a photo from the guy’s active duty days. Collectors love that kind of provenance, especially if it provides context for otherwise meaningless personalized scratchings on a gun.

Hello, All! I'm considering the purchase of a S&W Victory Model in .38 S&W Special listed as a "1942" production. Serial Number V7655. I’ve included a link to some photos I’ve taken of the gun in hopes of getting information on the gun. The serial numbers seem to match in all the correct spots (including the grips).
Any information would be greatly appreciated! Looking for possible ship date and destination among any other information available. Also looking for some insight as to if $450.00 is a reasonable price.
