I looked at an Outdoorsman the other day that has me puzzled. When I opened the cylinder to look at it, one charge hole had a silver like ring around it. At first I thought that someone had sleeved one chamber, but upon further examination, that was not the case.

Wondering if anyone has ever seen something like this? The gun is for sale with no box or tools and the stocks are non diamond relief cut targets. The serial number was S 14678X IIRC which puts it around 55 or 56 just before model numbers.

It almost looks like someone put a case in that chamber and then spun the rim with a high speed drill.

Anyone have any thoughts??? Would make an OK shooter if anyone is interested.

A high speed spin sounds likely to me. I could see several reasons: hard fouling in one chamber that needed some serious scrubbing; a slightly proud ejector star that needed to be polished down to meet properly with the cylinder surface; a burr at the rear of the chamber that similarly needed to be polished off. While I have never used a Dremel tool or drill to spin a cleaning rod in a cylinder, I have had some proud metal that needed to be either stoned off or hammered carefully back into the metal mass. Three days ago I had a prewar I-frame .22 cylinder that I couldn't even load because a previous owner had dry fired it, peening a small steel hill right at the mouth of every charge hole.

Serious target shooters would often index one chamber and only use the other five for consistency (five shot strings were the norm). Possibility?

I just recently picked up a Colt-King Super Target that had a pronounced ring around each chamber in the cylinder (it really looked like each chamber was sleeved). After asking for info at the Colt forum, and upon re-examining it with a loop it was clearly just blue loss. I pulled all my revolvers and didn't find any evidence of this type of finish loss with my S&W's, however another Colt I have had rings, though not as clearly defined, around the individual chambers.

If anyone is interested, he is looking for $900 for the gun. Not sure about shipping but PM or email if interested.
