Default Old Chief's Special.. Value?

Can anyone tell me a ball park value of this "Baby Chief's Special"?
I picked this up at a show yesterday laying amongst a slew of new era semi Auto's. Some of you helped me identify it yesterday as a "Baby Chief's Special". Since then I know it was made between '52 & '53. The round trigger guard and shorter stocks and 5 screw with the serrated front sight ramp helped dial that in. I admit I did give up $300 for it...
It is in pretty good shape. There is some wear on bluing where the muzzle sat in holster. S/N 35920

You got it for less than it is worth, probably by about $150-200. Enjoy!

I have one. Carried by a friend of mine who was LE as a back up. Can't help you with the value. Ran serial number through S&W. They sent me a letter back stating it was produced February 1953.

That's a "Cherry" and as said by another above, I agree, a very good price especially for that condition.

Well you know that it's worth at least $300 as that's what it last sold for...

Don't let any LEOs find out about it... you stole it!

I just gave that same amount for one identical but about a grade and a half lower due to extensive holster wear. As we say in the Sunny South, "Yuh done good, son."

Nice catch!! Looks like you did very well. I have one with way more holster wear. Can't recall off the top of my head what I paid for it, I keep it loaded and handy incase the defecation hits the ventilation, it's my wife's goto gun.

I paid $600 for mine in May 2010 with serial number 20768 that shipped in October 1952. Came with the chiefs badge and holster and original red box and wax paper. I would think that anything under $500 was a very good deal.
