Hello,
Looking for an idea on the value of a virtually NIB 1st year production blue finish .32 Regulation Police......standard model, not target.
Sorry, don't have photos at this time.

Last year this one set me back $700 -- the asking price -- and I thought it was a great deal. Shipped May, 1917 (First month's production.)
They don't usually turn up early, boxed and almost new at the same time, so it wouldn't surprise me to hear prices for such guns in the vicinity of $1000-1100. I see good early specimens offered without the box in the $800-900 range.

Value
Thanks David,
I will be taking possesion of the .32 RG on Monday and will post photos.
The box is the original box, but is missing the label.
The gun is unfired and has one very small scratch I am told, otherwise it's in super clean condition.
I have not decided if I will keep it or offer it up for sale......
Tom

What length barrel is it? Those are marvelous guns. Might be interested if you are selling. . . . .

.32 RG
The barrel is 4 1/4"
As mentioned, the box is missing the label, but the S/N penciled on the bottom is correct.
It even comes with the original "hang tag"......nice piece!
Will have it in possesion on Monday and will post a few photos.
Tom

Picked up the .32 RG today.....here are photos, this is an unfired new gun! The ONLY blem is a very tiny scratch on the side plate that is nearly impossible to photograph.
Includes the original hang tag and folded brochure!!

Good one!
Yes, it is defitely a GOOD ONE!
If the label was on the box, it would certainly be better, but with the hang tag and brochure.......it more than makes up for it!
This is one of the last of a local S&W collectors stash......

Tom,
A beauty!
Can you share the serial number? It now looks as though RP serialization started at about 258000, lower than the estimate of 263000 that is found in earlier printed resources. That RP I posted up above is 259162. RP 262xxx just turned up; it shipped in June 1917. I'm trying to nail down the really early ones.
Does your gun have the June 5, 1917 patent stamp on the left grip panel? The very first RPs did not have the dates because many stock sets had been made up before the patent was granted.

This revolver was owned by David Damkaer who at one time in the mid 80's was the editor of the S&W Journal. His main interest was in transition models and he put out a booklet called "Rare Pairs". This was also the name he gave to his display.
The .32 RG that I have been telling you about is S/N 2612XX and according to Damkaer "this is 1,700 numbers LOWER than the published first serial number range"
This one was also shipped in 1917.
I have not yet removed the grip panels.....sorry!
Tom

Thanks, Tom. The patent date (which is for the rebated frame and RP stock design) is on the butt of the left panel, so if you haven't seen it by now it isn't there. You don't have to remove anything to check.
A beautiful gun -- and an early one.
